Getting a college education can be one of the most important things a person can do in their life. But not everyone has the resources to pursue higher education. Resources such as time and finances are essential when applying for the best schools in the state. Luckily, in each location, students with limitations can choose from several colleges and universities. In the state of Idaho, among the best schools there includes the Lewis and Clark State College.
Lewis Clark State College, also known as LCSC, is a public college located in Lewiston, in the state of Idaho. The school was established in 1893. The school has an average enrollment of more than 3,500 students each term. These students come from over 30 states and more than 20 different countries. LCSC awards more than 80 degrees, but it is known for its technical programs and specific courses including education, criminal justice, and nursing. The school became a state college in 1966, and in 1971, the school changed its name to its current one.
The schools began in 1893, when the Governor or Idaho, William Connell signed an act that would authorize the establishment of the Lewiston State Normal School in Lewiston. The only condition was that the mayor of Lewiston and the city council donate 10 acres within the city limits of Lewiston. The 10 acres were found in the outer fringes of the city in a part called the City Park. The mayor and the council agreed to use the land for the normal school.
During the first few years, the school focused on practical hands on training for students who wanted to become teachers or teachers who wanted to improve on their craft. This meant that they had to provide a lot of hands on training or vocational education. To make sure that teachers really knew how to handle a class, the school operated an on-campus training center. In the center, teachers would teach a real class to real students but under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Lewis and Clark State College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or NAIA. The school competes in the Frontier Conference. The school colors are navy blue, white, and red, and the school nicknames of the Warriors and the Lady Warriors.
